Spread MCU News

🚨 WARNING: Major spoilers and comic lore ahead. You’ve been warned — and you’re going to want to read every single word.

Marvel fans, buckle up. Because what Doctor Doom reportedly does to some of your favorite Avengers in Avengers: Secret Wars (December 2027) is not just shocking — it is straight-up nightmare fuel. And the scariest part? It’s all ripped directly from the comics. Marvel isn’t hiding it. They’re leaning hard into it.

Let’s break down everything we now know about Avengers: Secret Wars — confirmed cast, production timeline, Battle World, and the two most horrifying fates any Marvel hero has ever suffered.

🗓️ Secret Wars Production: It’s Actually Happening — Very Soon

According to actor Evan Moss-Bachrach, who plays Ben Grimm / The Thing in the MCU’s Fantastic Four, production on Avengers: Secret Wars is set to begin in August 2026 — just a few months away. In a recent interview, he confirmed he will be filming Secret Wars in August, balanced around his summer theater schedule.

“Dog Guy runs through the summer and then Avengers: Secret Wars shoots in August.”

Meanwhile, Paul Bettany (Vision) has also strongly hinted at his return. While carefully hedging his words in a recent interview, he previously told The Telegraph in December 2025: “I think I’ve got some Avengers duties next year.” Someone at Marvel Studios told Paul Bettany — or his agent — to block off time in 2026 for an Avengers project. And based on the timing of Vision Quest (premiering October 14 on Disney+, with weekly Wednesday episodes leading right up to Doomsday’s release), Vision will almost certainly survive into Secret Wars.

The big question on everyone’s mind: Can a film this massive actually hit its December 2027 release date? Based on the Russos’ typical pattern — roughly 4 months of production followed by a year of post-production — the timeline is tight but doable, especially if some actors like Moss-Bachrach are only needed for a few weeks.

🌍 What Is Battle World? The MCU’s Most Ambitious Setting Ever

Kevin Feige himself confirmed it at CinemaCon. Secret Wars is “as ambitious a project as we’ve ever embarked on.” He also clarified that while Doomsday leads into Secret Wars, they connect in a very different way than Infinity War led into Endgame. Don’t expect a direct two-parter continuation.

So what is the setup? Here’s the short version:

In Jonathan Hickman’s legendary Secret Wars comic run — which the MCU is clearly adapting — universes are colliding. These universe-ending collision events are called Incursions, and they result in entire Earths smashing into each other and shattering. Doctor Doom, using reality-warping powers he steals from god-like beings called the Beyonders, reassembles the broken fragments of these shattered universes into one brand-new, patchwork planet: Battle World.

On this world, Doom is God Emperor. He controls everything. Different regions of Battle World represent different universes, different timelines, different corners of the MCU and beyond. Think of it as a cosmic jigsaw puzzle made from the rubble of countless realities — and Doom sitting on the throne at the center of it all.

Visually, Marvel has been telegraphing this for years. Remember the post-Incursion Earth in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — that melted, hellish landscape where a shoreline appeared in the middle of a city? That’s what an Incursion looks like. The TVA’s Void from Loki and Deadpool & Wolverine may also become the ground layer upon which Battle World is built.

😱 The Most Horrifying Thing Doctor Doom Does — To His Own Enemies

Here’s where it gets absolutely brutal. And this is straight from the 2015 Hickman Secret Wars comic event that the MCU is drawing from.

🧱 The Thing Becomes… A Wall

Battle World is divided into 40+ domains, separated by a massive protective barrier called The Shield — a wall that keeps the most dangerous domains (zombie-infested Dead Lands, Ultron’s techno-dystopia called Perfection, and the devastated Nova Corps territory of New Xandar) from spilling into the rest of the planet.

The terrifying truth? The Shield is literally made out of Ben Grimm’s orange rock body.

God Emperor Doom convinced The Thing to become the living wall — physically transforming Ben’s body into the barrier that protects Battle World’s inhabitants from the horrors on the other side. Ben Grimm. The lovable, gruff hero of the Fantastic Four. A wall. Forever.

Let that sink in.

☀️ Human Torch Becomes… The Sun

It gets worse. When Johnny Storm / The Human Torch dared to rebel against Doom’s rule on Battle World, Doom punished him in the most spectacular and cruel way imaginable: he forced Johnny to become the sun itself — perpetually flying across the sky, providing light and warmth to all of Battle World, worshipped by its inhabitants like some tragic, mythological figure. Johnny Storm. The Human Torch. A living sun. Going around and around forever.

These two fates could even serve as the shocking ending of Avengers: Doomsday, setting the stage for the full horror of Battle World in Secret Wars. If Marvel sticks to these beats from the source material, audiences who haven’t read the comics are going to absolutely lose their minds in theaters.

🎭 Confirmed & Expected Cast for Secret Wars

The Fantastic Four + Franklin Richards Pedro Pascal, etc. Expected
Vision Paul Bettany Near-confirmed
Doctor Strange Benedict Cumberbatch Has confirmed in interviews

New T’Challa New Actor Expected

Notable expected casualties before Secret Wars (i.e., dying in Doomsday): Some original Avengers, some Thunderbolts (looking at you, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes), and possibly several Fox X-Men.

🦸 X-Men, Spider-Man & The Next MCU Era

Here’s how the post-Secret Wars MCU could take shape. Sadie Sink is confirmed to return after Spider-Man: Brand New Day, widely expected to be playing Jean Grey. If she survives Secret Wars, she becomes the foundation of the new MCU X-Men roster — along with other new mutant characters introduced in Battle World’s domains.

This is how Marvel gets to reset. The Fox X-Men likely die in Doomsday. The new MCU X-Men emerge from the ruins of Secret Wars. Marvel Studios X-Men is reportedly targeting a 2028 release — and Secret Wars is the launchpad.

Similarly, background casting notices for Secret Wars are already seeking “enhanced beings, fighters, and survivors” — strongly suggesting Battle World will be packed with mutants, super-soldiers, and powered individuals from across the multiverse.

🔗 How Doomsday & Secret Wars Actually Connect

Kevin Feige was crystal clear at CinemaCon: these two films do not connect the way Infinity War and Endgame did. They are not a two-part story in the traditional sense.

Instead, think of it this way: Doomsday is the catastrophe. Secret Wars is the aftermath — and the miracle of creation. Doomsday destroys the multiverse. Secret Wars rebuilds it. Doctor Doom is the architect of what comes next. And based on concept art leaks that the Russos themselves didn’t deny (because they were for Secret Wars, not Doomsday), we’re looking at a Battle World that includes:

  • A Hulk village (a domain ruled by or populated by Hulk variants)
  • Doctor Strange as Doom’s Sheriff of Battle World — policing the domains
  • A couch scene featuring Vision and Peter Quill — picking up on the “Legendary Star-Lord will return” promise from GotG Vol. 3
  • A new T’Challa as Black Panther of Battle World

🎯 Why This Will Be the Biggest Marvel Movie Ever

Avengers: Secret Wars isn’t just the end of the Multiverse Saga. It’s the reset button for the entire MCU. Every character, every corner of the Marvel universe, every timeline — all of it crashing together on one impossible planet, ruled by one man in a green cloak and an iron mask.

Doctor Doom isn’t just the villain. He’s the god. And gods do terrible, beautiful, terrible things.

The comics warned us. We tried to tell you. On December 18, 2027, the world finds out.
