It has been confirmed that Ozark actor and three-time Emmy winner Julia Garner will portray a version of Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four, the forthcoming film that will introduce the eponymous quartet to the MCU. However, a famous actor appeared to be caught off guard by the news. According to sources, The Changeling star LaKeith Stanfield turned to Instagram when the news broke to express his displeasure. Stanfield, who received an Academy Award nomination for Judas and the Black Messiah, captioned a screenshot of the news, “Thought it was going to be me but ig.” Stanfield has already removed the post, and it is unknown whether he truly auditioned or was a strong candidate for the part. The actor might have been alluding to fans who previously campaigned for him to play the part. He has not yet provided any more clarity as of this writing.

Julia Garner will play Shalla-Bal, a character who was initially introduced as Norrin Radd’s love interest in Silver Surfer. In Marvel’s cosmos, the figure appears as a Silver Surfer with Norrin. It’s unclear whether the Norrin character will feature in The Fantastic Four. There have been reports that Galactus will be the film’s main adversary, however this has not been officially confirmed, and no actors have been cast for the supposed role. LaKeith Stanfield has received widespread recognition throughout his career, yet he has yet to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He recently starred in the Apple TV+ series The Changeling, as well as the films Haunted Mansion and The Book of Clarence. The actor has previously acted in films including Straight Outta Compton, Get Out, Death Note, Uncut Gems, and Knives Out. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in Judas and the Black Messiah, but his co-star, Daniel Kaluuya, won.
