The box office performance of Captain America: Brave New World helps Marvel Studios’ Captain America film franchise surpass a significant MCU milestone. The box office success of Captain America: Brave New World has not been as strong as that of other Captain America films. However, box office letdowns like The Incredible Hulk and The Marvels have been surpassed by Sam Wilson’s debut MCU film, which has gradually moved up the MCU’s ranks. A few significant turning points in the MCU’s history have eased the rocky path to the approaching Avengers: Secret Wars climax, even if the Multiverse Saga of the MCU, and Phase 5 in particular, hasn’t produced the outcomes Marvel Studios may have hoped for. According to Box Office Mojo, Captain America: Brave New World has officially crossed $400 million at the global box office one month and one week after its premiere. Thus, the four Captain America films in the MCU have made a total of $2.6 billion. At $1,155 million, Captain America: Civil War continues to be the highest-grossing Captain America film. Captain America: The First Avenger brought in $370.5 million, while Captain America: The Winter Soldier brought in $714.4 million.

Captain America: Brave New World continues to be the lowest-grossing film in the Marvel Studios’ Captain America series when inflation is taken into consideration. However, considering its budget, the $400 million global box office receipts for Captain America: Brave New World would indicate that the film has at least broken even for Marvel. Captain America: Brave New World keeps the success record of the Captain America subfranchise intact, even if its box office result might have been far greater. In contrast, Ant-Man and Captain Marvel failed in their third and second editions. Over the course of more than two films, three of Marvel Studios’ subfranchises have maintained an unbroken run at the box office: every Thor subfranchise film has been a box office success, and none of them have earned less than twice their budget. With Spider-Man: No Way Home surpassing Spider-Man: Homecoming’s total box revenue, the MCU’s Spider-Man subfranchise has been performing better and better. Before its fourth installment underperformed compared to its first three, the performance of the Captain America films was also improving. However, Captain America: Brave New World has likely already broken even, indicating that the Captain America franchise has managed to maintain its successful status.

However, Captain America: Brave New World has made over $300 million less than Captain America: The Winter Soldier and over $750 million less than Captain America: Civil War, and Thor: Love and Thunder has made about $100 million less than Thor: Ragnarok. The declining box office performance of previous MCU sequels, including with The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, indicates that even the most well-liked MCU characters are not immune to financial setbacks. Future follow-ups like Shang-Chi 2, Doctor Strange 3, and Spider-Man 4, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, will demonstrate whether or not this pattern is affecting all sequels.
