Kevin Wright, the executive producer of Loki, recently discussed if Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief may reenter the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview, Wright stated, “That’s the hope. “No, I don’t want to. The focus of the tale, in my opinion, has always been on Loki and Thor enjoying a new day of sunshine. But we need to move Loki emotionally in order for that encounter to be truly fruitful. That, in my opinion, has been the aim of these two seasons. Since 2011, Hiddleston has played Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fan favourite God of Mischief originally made an appearance in the original timeline in Thor (2011), and Hiddleston later returned to play the character in Marvel’s The Avengers (2012), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), and Avengers: Infinity War (2018). At the start of the Infinity War, the original Loki was killed by Thanos, leaving a distraught Thor without any relatives.

Loki from Marvel’s The Avengers appeared in an alternate universe in Avengers: Endgame (2019), having fled capture with the Tesseract when the Avengers travelled back in time to reclaim the Infinity Stones. The self-titled Disney+ series starring the character was set up by this scene and debuted on Disney+ in June 2021. The first season of Michael Waldron’s television series Loki follows the Endgame Loki as he cooperates with the Time Variance Authority (TVA) to prevent the holy chronology from being shattered. The official Season 2 summary states, “The next season picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority.” In quest of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes, and the reality of what it means to have free will and a noble purpose, Loki navigates a growing and perilous Multiverse with the help of Mobius, Hunter B-15, and a group of new and returning characters. Along with Hiddleston, Loki Season 2 also stars Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Eugene Cordero as Casey/Hunter K-5E, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, and Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15. Ke Huy Quan joins the cast as Ouroboros, a TVA agent who works in the department of advancement and repairs.
