The Krakoa period of the X-Men, which has challenged the Marvel Comics status quo recently, is nearing its end. Marvel has unveiled the logo and preliminary information for two new miniseries with the titles “Fall of the House of X” and “Rise of the Powers of X,” which are scheduled to premiere in January 2024. These series are being hailed as the “final battle of the X-Men’s Krakoan age.” In contrast to “Rise of the Powers of X,” which was written by Kieron Gillen and R.B. Silva, “Fall of the House of X” was written by Gerry Duggan and drawn by Lucas Werneck. At the October New York Comic Con conference, further details about these series will be revealed.
In this year’s Hellfire Gala one-shot, Orchis disrupted the event and then executed numerous cherished X-Men characters, signalling the coming end of the Krakoa period. With a kill switch, Orchis revealed their covert destruction of Krakoa’s life-saving medications. In response, Stasis gave Professor X a choice: turn himself in and eliminate all mutants from Earth, or risk the kill switch being turned on. Despite his reluctance, Professor X consented and kept the mutants under control, but he subsequently regretted it and thought he had doomed them. Only a few of people, including Emma Frost, Kamala Khan, and Kitty Pryde, were able to flee, but they were left trapped on a dangerous Earth. Exodus driving The Five through a particular Krakoan gate, hinting at possible survival, and Mother Righteous enclosing Krakoa’s Atlantic Island under a shield.
The original author of “House of X” and “Powers of X,” Jonathan Hickman, thought back on his ideas for the Krakoa period. Hickman said that his initial three-act, three-event narrative structure suffered major alterations even though he stepped down from his position in 2021. Although the plot loosely followed a three-year schedule when it was first proposed, he left it open-ended since other writers expressed an interest in further developing the exciting concepts he had presented. To make sure everyone was ready for any changes in the plot, Hickman shared his first three-act concept with his colleagues authors.
