The top choice director for Avengers: Secret Wars is Sam Raimi.

The top choice director for Avengers: Secret Wars is Sam Raimi.

Sam Raimi, who directed the acclaimed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is apparently a candidate to helm Marvel Studios’ eagerly anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars. Following rumours that writers Michael Waldron and Jeff Loveness will be fired from their separate Avengers films, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, it appears that Marvel Studios already has a director in mind to handle its sixth Avengers feature. Industry insider MyTimetoShineHello on X claims that Raimi is the “top choice” to direct Secret Wars. Given that Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton is anticipated to take over The Kang Dynasty, this would be the first time an Avengers film wasn’t made by the same director or directors as the previous episode. Raimi’s superhero films, including the original Spider-Man trilogy from Sony and the follow-up to Doctor Strange, have always been character-driven tales centred around a main hero. This would be the Evil Dead director’s greatest superhero film to date in terms of scope and scale, as well as his first time directing a team-up movie with numerous main characters, should he decide to join the Marvel Studios production. Given that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still exploring the universe, Raimi’s likely presence in Secret Wars may be a clue to Doctor Strange’s significant part in the next Avengers films.

The Multiverse Saga of the MCU is anticipated to be concluded by the Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars films. Only Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, has been officially confirmed to appear in the future fifth and sixth Avengers films. The Emmy-nominated actor is currently embroiled in controversy, so it’s uncertain if Majors will still portray the enduring Marvel villain in future films. The only thing that is currently guaranteed is that he will play Victor Timely in the forthcoming Loki Season 2. Marvel Studios is apparently working to put together the Secret Wars creative team while also reaching out to numerous seasoned Marvel actors to join the film’s ensemble cast, which is anticipated to be larger than those of past Avengers films. Following Andrew Garfield’s well-received return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, internet rumours regarding his upcoming Spider-Man appearance started to spread. According to a recent rumour, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had reportedly approached Garfield before the SAG-AFTRA strike. Hugh Jackman, who played Wolverine on the X-Men, may have also met with Feige to talk about Wolverine’s future in the MCU and his prospective “big role” in Secret Wars. Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ titular anti-hero might finally join forces in Deadpool 3, where Jackman is currently attached to reprise his fan-favorite role as the hero. Marvel Studios’ first R-rated film is now on hold while the current Hollywood strikes are happening. A series of set images finally allowed Jackman’s comic-accurate Wolverine costume to be seen before the production pause.
