Status: Rumour. A new Avengers: Doomsday opening battle leak claims the film begins with one of the boldest cold opens in Marvel history: Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man fighting alongside the X-Men as his entire universe dies. The Avengers: Doomsday opening battle description surfaced this week via a Russian Telegram account and was picked up by Murphy’s Multiverse, and while nothing here is confirmed, it lines up uncomfortably well with what we have already seen and heard.
What does the leaked opening battle describe?
According to the leak, the film opens on Earth-96283, the universe of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, in the middle of an Incursion with the X-Men’s world. The sequence reportedly features:
- Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man fighting in rain-soaked streets alongside Wolverine and Deadpool
- Magneto dropping bombs on the city as the two realities collide
- A devastated Daily Bugle, with the building’s logo shown collapsed in leaked imagery
- No Green Goblin and no Doctor Octopus anywhere in the sequence
- Earth-96283 ultimately being destroyed
If accurate, that would make the destruction of the original movie Spider-Man’s universe the inciting event of the entire film, an emotional gut-punch aimed squarely at an entire generation of fans.
Maguire has not worn the suit since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, where his return became the biggest applause moment of the Multiverse Saga. Marvel knows exactly what his universe means to audiences, which is precisely why a leak about destroying it is so easy to believe and so hard to verify: it is what the story would do, and it is also what a clever fake would invent.
How credible is this Avengers: Doomsday leak?

How does it fit the trailer and earlier leaks?
The claim does not exist in a vacuum. The D23 footage, which we broke down when Doomsday tickets went on sale early, includes a shot of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X shielding his eyes from an approaching wall of light, exactly what an Incursion looks like on screen. Meanwhile, Disney+ star Walker Scobell separately called a leaked Tobey Maguire scene “one of the coolest things” he had heard about, suggesting a Maguire sequence of some kind genuinely exists in some form. Add the leaked set photos that put Raimi-era Spider-Man iconography next to X-Men characters, and the broad strokes of this rumour have more support than most.
Why an Incursion opening makes story sense
Doomsday needs to establish two things fast: that Incursions are apocalyptic, and that Doctor Doom’s radical solution has a twisted logic to it. Destroying a beloved legacy universe in the opening minutes accomplishes both, the same way Infinity War opened by killing Loki to prove Thanos was serious. It would also explain why Marvel has been so careful about which corners of the multiverse appear in marketing, and it dovetails with the murky production timeline around Secret Wars, where Battleworld is expected to be assembled from the wreckage of dead universes.
What happens next
Marvel will not comment on leaks, so the next real data point is the full Doomsday trailer expected during the autumn marketing ramp. If it opens in the rain on a familiar New York, you will know this one was real. We are logging this claim in our rumour tracker and will update it to confirmed or debunked the moment the film screens.
