Peter Parker just refuses to leave the top of the box office. Spider-Man: Brand New Day pulled another 39 million dollars in its fourth weekend, closed Sunday on 855 million dollars domestic, and is now sitting three lonely million dollars away from taking down Avengers: Endgame. This week.
Yes, that Avengers: Endgame. The Snap. The Portals. On Your Left. The film that has held the number two spot on the all-time US chart for seven summers.
How big was Spider-Man Brand New Day box office this weekend?
Per Deadline, Sony’s webhead won a fourth straight weekend crown with 39 million dollars from 3,900-plus theatres, batting away Insidious: Out of the Further, which opened to a soft 25.3 million dollars domestic. That is a 45 percent drop from weekend three, incredible legs for a movie already 24 days old.
The Spider-Man Brand New Day box office total now sits at 855 million dollars domestic and roughly 2.2 billion dollars worldwide. That makes it the sixth biggest global release in history, ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and creeping toward Titanic.
When does Peter Parker overtake Avengers: Endgame?
Endgame’s final US total is 858.4 million dollars. Brand New Day is on 855.3. Even a slow Monday of two to three million dollars, which the Sacnilk-style tracking sites are already pencilling in, gets Peter across the line before Tuesday morning.
That would make Brand New Day the second highest grossing US release ever, behind only Avatar: The Way of Water. And with schools reopening and no serious blockbuster competition until Insidious 6 finds its own weekend legs, Sony has room to keep printing money through Labor Day.
How does this stack up against No Way Home?
No Way Home did 814 million dollars domestic across its entire theatrical run. Brand New Day has already lapped it in less than four weekends, and it is doing it without the multiverse gimmick. This is Tom Holland alone, in a Spider-Man movie about Peter Parker being Peter Parker, out-earning the movie where three Spider-Men shared a stage.
Read that back. It genuinely reshapes how much multiverse tax Marvel has been paying at the box office. If a grounded, character-first Spidey can outrun a three-Spider-Men crossover, the Doomsday and Secret Wars playbook of everyone-everywhere-all-at-once suddenly looks less inevitable.
What about international and India?
Overseas is where the film is really pulling ahead. It has already lapped 1.35 billion dollars from foreign markets, with China, the UK, Mexico and Brazil all in the top five holdovers.
In India, Brand New Day is on ₹485.35 crore nett and ₹580.27 crore gross after 25 days per Sacnilk, and it just booked its fifth 2 crore-plus Sunday in a row. That is Endgame-tier stamina, not the usual Hollywood cliff.
What happens next
This week is the coronation. Peter Parker takes the Endgame domestic crown, probably by Tuesday, and Sony will be shouting about it from a rooftop by Wednesday. After that, the real question is 900 million dollars domestic, which no Marvel movie has ever done. It is genuinely on the table.
Watch for Sony to lock in a digital release date at Labor Day, because they will want every last cinema dollar first. And keep an eye on our Spider-Man: Brand New Day hub for the daily numbers, and on the full MCU release calendar to see what Peter is racing next.
Do you think Brand New Day deserves the second all-time crown, or has multiverse fatigue done Endgame no favours in this comparison? Drop your take in the comments.
