For the first time since their debut in the MCU seven years ago, a significant antagonist in Daredevil: Born Again has recently been granted a codename. At the conclusion of Daredevil: Born Again episode 4, the series presents yet another antagonist that the title character will ultimately have to deal with. The antagonist is Daredevil: Born Again’s Muse, a street artist who plasters the blood and intestines of his numerous victims on New York City walls to spread his message. Other villains in Daredevil: Born Again are less obscure, although it is still unclear who will portray Muse. Kingpin continues to be the show’s major nemesis, and in the early episodes, Matt finds a suitable counterpoint in the corrupt NYPD officers. The plot of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is expected to feature the return of these several shady individuals as well as one that hasn’t been seen since season 1’s debut. Daredevil: Born Again episode 4 gives them their Marvel codename for the first time, even though this enemy isn’t present and the MCU plot is seven years old.
The antagonist in question is Bullseye, who in the MCU is also known as Benjamin Poindexter. The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again began with Poindexter’s unexpected reappearance. The villain killed Foggy Nelson as payback for his imprisonment at the conclusion of Daredevil season 3. Due to the one-year time leap and his subsequent return to jail, the character has not been seen since. However, the character has been a member of the MCU for seven years, having made his debut in season three of Daredevil in 2018. During those seven years, the figure has never been referred to by his Marvel Comics villain name, Bullseye. That is, until the fourth episode of Daredevil: Born Again. The Punisher, Frank Castle, makes a reappearance in this episode, forcing Matt to relive his feelings of guilt and rage over Foggy’s passing. In this scene, seven years after Poindexter’s initial appearance, Frank calls him Bullseye, the first time the villain has been given his famous nickname in the series. Bullseye’s lethal precision with any projectile is the main reason he is referred to as such in Marvel Comics. But it also connects to his beginnings. Poindexter is shown in the comics as a baseball enthusiast as a child. When a member of the other side labels him a coward in one game, Poindexter hurls the ball at his head and mutters “bullseye.” Following the death of the opposing player, Poindexter—who was initially identified as the antagonist in Daredevil: Born Again episode 4—begins his downward spiral as the antagonist.
