What is Avengers: Doomsday about?
Marvel is keeping the plot locked down, but the official setup is this: Doctor Doom emerges as a multiversal threat in the aftermath of the Multiverse Saga’s incursions, forcing the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Wakanda, the New Avengers and the X-Men’s world into collision. The Latveria and Franklin Richards threads from The Fantastic Four: First Steps feed directly in.
Beyond that official line, plot claims are strictly leak territory, and some are spicy: a claimed plot leak says Doom wins and Xavier dies, another puts Doom on a Battleworld throne in the ending, and a third describes an opening battle involving Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. All three are unverified, treat them as rumours, not spoilers.
Is there an Avengers: Doomsday trailer?
Yes. The official trailer is here:
Marvel also debuted a special look at D23 in August 2026:

Frequently asked questions
Is Robert Downey Jr. really playing Doctor Doom?
Yes, officially confirmed by Marvel at Comic-Con 2024 and doubled down on ever since. He plays Victor von Doom, not an Iron Man variant, though how the film addresses the face is one of its best-guarded secrets. RDJ himself keeps teasing it, most recently calling patience the “only antidote” for Doomsday.
Are the X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday?
Yes, and it is the original Fox-era cast: Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden and Channing Tatum are all confirmed, marking the first true MCU/X-Men crossover.
Is Spider-Man in Doomsday?
Tom Holland is not in the confirmed cast; reports have him sitting this one out after Brand New Day and returning for Secret Wars. Tobey Maguire’s involvement is rumour only.
When did filming finish?
Principal photography wrapped in 2026, with additional photography planned around post-production, standard for a film this size.
