Anthony Mackie, who starred in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is slated to play the title character in the upcoming Captain America film. Although Captain America: Brave New World is still a long way off from theaters, two of its main characters can now be seen in new official photos. After the initial clip was shown to CinemaCon participants, two pictures were made public, with the first one being published by Entertainment Weekly. In one, Mackie is shown up close to Sam Wilson, who appears to be guarding him while brandishing the shield that Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), the former Captain America, had given him. Another image shows Mackie’s character Sam Wilson competing against Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, played by Harrison Ford. William Hurt, who passed away in 2021, left the part vacant for Ford, who last portrayed the character in Black Widow. You can see the pictures below.
Some information regarding the film that was exhibited at CinemaCon has been made public, despite the fact that the material itself was not. A glimpse of Ford’s “Thunderbolt” Ross greeting Sam Wilson at the White House and praising him for his performance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was shown in the teaser. Wilson is informed by Ross that he is required to assist in assembling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but problems soon arise. Carl Lumbly, repeating his role as Isaiah Bradley in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is one of the super-soldiers that storm into the White House and attack the President.
It made more sense for it to be a grounded espionage action movie rather than aliens with aircraft flying through portals and so on, Mackie said of Brave New World’s more grounded approach. Even though I’ve been in so many of movies and seen it all, this film provides Sam with the opportunity to truly establish himself as an action star and Avenger. One of the biggest discussions we had from the start was for this to not be Falcon and the Winter Soldier—Part 2, but rather to be its own movie with its own story, with its own characters. Mackie also stated that the movie is “ten times bigger” than The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson, who starred in The Incredible Hulk, return in the movie as Betty Ross and The Leader, respectively. There are also unconfirmed roles for Rosa Salazar and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins in the movie. The screenplay was co-written by Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton, and Julius Onah is directing.
