It is not uncommon for alternative endings or deleted scenes to be considered canon in the world of filmmaking. In the case of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, director James Gunn has confirmed that the deleted alternative ending featuring the high evolutionary is still considered part of the film’s canon. While the scene itself was removed from the final cut, Gunn explains that a crucial moment where Drax carries the high evolutionary’s body was intended to be in the actual film. However, it was ultimately cut for better flow and pacing.
Despite no longer working with Marvel Studios, Gunn believes that the high evolutionary’s character has survived and is now locked up in Nowhere. He is optimistic that Disney, who now owns Marvel, will do something with this character in the future, as it would be unlikely for them to forget or simply kill off the high evolutionary off-screen. Fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy series can look forward to how the high evolutionary storyline will be handled in the third volume of the franchise, as it promises to be an intriguing aspect to witness.
