First steps set video offers first look at The Thing in Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four: First Steps, a forthcoming MCU film, stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. A video that was taken on the movie set appears to have leaked a preview of the upcoming live-action Ben Grimm portrayal. Social media is awash with videos of The Thing on the set of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The short clip shows team workers applying prosthetics to a figure imitating The Thing, an iconic Marvel villain. It’s unknown if Moss-Bachrach is a stunt person standing in for the actor in the outfit. Fans are wondering if this indicates that real effects would be used to create The Thing, or if it’s merely a stand-in actor serving as a visual cue for the other actors. In any case, the featured costume depicts Ben Grimm wearing a comic-accurate outfit that readers of classic comic books may know.

Moss-Bachrach’s earlier remarks have hinted that The Thing will mostly use computer graphics, similar to the 2015 iteration. Although there may be disagreements among fans on the character’s on-screen interpretation, Moss-Bachrach appears to favor using motion capture technology over dressing up as a full-fledged Thing. This is due to his awareness of Michael Chiklis’ feelings of donning his business attire, which the actor described as “uncomfortable” in a 2005 adaptation interview. It’s not the suit, in my opinion. There was a suit on Michael Chiklis. Moss-Bachrach stated on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February that “apparently, the suit was really uncomfortable.” “I believe that is behind us. With the advent of technology, it’s becoming more amateur and cosplay. Most of it is captured live.” During an interview with The Daily Show, Moss-Bachrach made light of his preparations for the role of The Thing. The Emmy-winning actor began by joking that he’s “been looking at rocks” to get into the head of his character. He then revealed that he was conducting study by poring over old Fantastic Four comic books from Marvel’s collection.
