How would the son of the Scarlet Witch return to the MCU?

One has to question how a return is even feasible with all the rumors circulating about the Scarlet Witch’s son Billy Maximoff making an official appearance in the MCU soon. Billy made his television debut in WandaVision alongside his twin brother Tommy. Wanda Maximoff, suffering from sadness, created the Hex, a potent chaotic magic dome over the town of Westview that provided her with the ideal family and TV life she had always desired. That being said, Billy and Tommy didn’t appear to have a very bright future in the MCU after WandaVision. Speculations and suspicions have surfaced regarding the possible reappearance of Billy Maximoff, specifically in relation to the enigmatic character known as “Teen” in Agatha Harkness’s new coven, because Agatha All Along is now available for streaming onDisney+. However, considering WandaVision’s conclusion, one must question how Billy could have returned in the first place. Here are our personal opinions on whether Billy Maximoff will indeed make a comeback in Agatha All Along, as well as what we know about his potential MCU comeback and what transpired in the original comics.

At the conclusion of WandaVision, The Scarlet Witch made the decision to tear down the magical dome after realizing the anguish and suffering she had been giving the actual residents of Westview with the Hex. But since their offspring were all products of the Hex, this meant letting go of their children as well as the Vision she had created. In a technical sense, this meant Billy’s sibling had also passed away. But in WandaVision’s post-credits sequence, Billy and Tommy could be heard reaching out to their mother as she read the Darkhold, laying the groundwork for her sinister future plans in Doctor Strange in the universe of Madness: retrieving actual sons from a different universe. At the end of the MCU film, Wanda defeats the Darkhold’s corruption and destroys all copies of the book by bringing Mount Wundagore down on top of her. Because of this, neither Billy nor Tommy are alive at the moment in the MCU core 616 reality, and the Scarlet Witch is also dead.

Now, in the few Agatha All Along episodes that have been made available so far, it has been revealed that Harkness has been set free from the spell Wanda used to imprison her at the conclusion of WandaVision by a mystery youth named Joe Locke. But it turns out that a magical symbol has concealed Teen’s true name, so keeping his identity and past hidden from all witchkind. However, Teen is seen wearing the same headband and colors as Wiccan, the Young Avenger that Billy later becomes in the comics, in the promos and advertising for Agatha All Along. Similarly, if Teen is Billy, then it’s been speculated that his yearning for Agatha to lead him down the Witches’ Road may be a way to raise the Scarlet Witch from the grave. Though a few indications have suggested that Teen may be Agatha’s own long-lost son Nicholas Scratch, most indications point to Teen ultimately turning up as an older and more evolved version of Wanda’s kid Billy Maximoff. The original comics do address Billy’s possible comeback, however it’s unclear how exactly this will happen.

Generally speaking, it’s difficult to predict exactly how Billy (or his brother) may make a comeback to the MCU, but the comics offer the ideal example of a rebirth. As it did with WandaVision, Marvel Studios may be trying to maintain the comics’ lead, although with some twists of its own. Nevertheless, Joe Locke’s Teen undoubtedly has the appearance of a resurrected Billy Maximoff/Kaplan, and Agatha All Along seems like the ideal undertaking to validate his reappearance.

It does seem very likely some form of reincarnation will be how The Scarlet Witch’s son makes his MCU return.

It’s also important to remember that Agatha All Along was vital in confirming Mephisto’s existence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That does not imply, though, that Billy and Tommy from the MCU will eventually be exposed as fragments of Mephisto’s soul, as depicted in the comics. Furthermore, this aspect of their beginnings has subsequently been retconned by the comics themselves, with Mephisto merely viewing their lost souls as his to claim rather than as components of his own. In any case, it appears quite likely that The Scarlet Witch’s kid will return to the MCU through reincarnation.
