Hulu is getting the first three episodes of Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion. According to reports, from July 21 to August 17, the first three episodes of Secret Invasion — “Resurrection,” “Promises,” and “Betrayed” — will be available to view on Hulu ahead of the series finale on July 26. The first five episodes of the show are also available on Disney+. This is one of the rare occasions a Disney+ original series has been made available on Hulu, with Andor and American Born Chinese previously available. Former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is followed in Secret Invasion as he “learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls.” The six-episode limited series is based on Brian Michael Bendis, Leinil Francis Yu, Mark Morales, and Laura Martin’s famous 2008 Marvel Comics tale of the same name. The Skrulls, shapeshifting green-skinned extraterrestrials that can flawlessly replicate any human at command, were initially featured in Captain Marvel in 2019 before reappearing briefly in a post-credits sequence in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

Aside from Jackson’s Nick Fury, Secret Invasion sees the return of various Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, including Don Cheadle’s James “Rhodey” Rhodes, Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, and Martin Freeman’s Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman as Sonya Falsworth, a high-ranking MI6 spy; Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, the leader of the dissident Skrulls; Dermot Mulroney as Ritson, the president of the United States; and Charlayne Woodard as Varra/Priscilla Davis, Nick Fury’s wife, are new entrants to the franchise. G’iah, Talos’ adult daughter, is likewise played by Emilia Clarke, who was earlier portrayed as a kid by Auden L. Ophuls and Harriet L. Ophuls in Captain Marvel. While Secret Invasion is intended to be a stand-alone tale, the events of the Disney+ limited series have been confirmed to set up two forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films: The Marvels and Armour Wars. Jackson’s Nick Fury will feature in The Marvels, despite the fact that the actor earlier stated that Secret Invasion must “happen so that The Marvels can happen.” “All of these things are connected in an interesting way,” Jackson continued. In terms of Armour Wars, which is being developed as a solo project for James “Rhodey” Rhodes/War Machine, Cheadle stated in January 2023 that “there’s a part of Secret Invasion that kicks off what happens in Armour Wars.”
