“I was very discouraged”: Marvel prevented Loki Star from winning season 2 prop

Props are sometimes taken home by actors as a keepsake of the time they spend on a film; sadly, Marvel prevented Ke Huy Quan, who plays Loki, from bringing home a particularly noteworthy object from the second season of Loki. Quan said in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that he planned to take the TVA handbook off the set of Loki. “So the TVA handbook was written by Ouroboros, correct? There were a lot of copies of the book on the set when we were filming, Quan recalled. “And the last week of our shoot, I was thinking that since my character wrote the TVA guidebook, I should have a copy, so I took a copy back to my trailer.”

Quan’s effort to steal the book, meanwhile, was unsuccessful since the prop master was closely monitoring every prop. “Ke, we are missing one copy, oh my gosh. Are you in possession of it? I couldn’t lie to him because of his frightened expression,” Quan said. “Can I keep it, I asked him? He said, “No, you can’t keep it.” Because they always count every single prop they have on site at the end of the day. Marvel was quite particular about every prop. I was thus somewhat dissatisfied.”

Following an almost two-decade hiatus from acting, Quin made a victorious comeback to the big screen in Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan’s Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022).Quan’s exceptional performance was sufficient to secure him a nomination for the 2023 Academy Awards in the Best Supporting Actor category. After winning the prize, Quan presented a touching and motivational acceptance speech. Still, Kevin Feige himself would give Quin another trophy of sorts.” And it was not until after I won the Oscar that I got a very special present from Kevin Feige and the Marvel team, “Quan remarked.” They handed me one of those tubes from Repairs & Advancement in addition to a temp pad. Thus, I suppose all it takes to receive a prop from a Marvel film is to win an Oscar.”

Following his Oscar-winning comeback to acting, Quan, who first gained recognition as a child actor in the 1980s with roles in beloved movies like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies, has enjoyed great success. Quan most recently voiced a voiceover in Kung Fu Panda 4, in addition to making an appearance as O.B. in the second season of Loki. Quan is also scheduled to feature in the 2025 release of the action movie With Love.
