Marvel’s Blade reboot is expected to begin production this year. The encouraging announcement comes after the film’s frantic production, which included an exhaustive scriptwriting process and several delays. It appears like the film is finally gaining momentum. According to sources, a Production Weekly listing indicates that the future Marvel feature will begin production in the fall of 2024. This is apparently in keeping with Blade’s current estimated release date of November 7, 2025, while unsubstantiated sources suggest that the picture might be moved to 2026. A new Blade movie focusing on Marvel’s premier Daywalker has been in development since 2013. In 2019, famed actor Mahershala Ali was revealed as the film’s lead, and fans got a taste of his Blade through a vocal appearance in the post-credits sequence of 2021’s Eternals. Blade has endured a series of obstacles in the more than five years after Ali was first connected to the project, including the WGA strike in 2023 and the subsequent SAG-AFTRA strike.
In December 2023, Ali updated fans on the film’s status, merely saying, “We’re working on it.” Ali went on to say, “That was the best I could tell you. I am quite encouraged by the project’s direction. I believe we will be back at it very shortly… I’m quite encouraged with where things are, who’s on board, and who’s leading the way in terms of screenplay writing, directing, and so on. So that’s all I can tell you. While Blade has been a fan favorite in comic books since his introduction in 1973’s Tomb of Dracula by writer Marv Wolfman and illustrator Gene Colan, the character did not make his film debut until 1998’s Blade, starring Wesley Snipes. The initial film launched a trilogy of feature films, including 2002’s Blade II and 2004’s Blade Trinity, as well as a television series starring Kirk “Sticky Fingaz” Jones set after the events of the first trilogy. Blade: The series concluded after a single 13-episode season.
