Sacha Baron Cohen’s inclusion in the cast of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series Ironheart has been verified by a new copyright application for the film. Cohen is listed as “Mystery Man” in a recent Ironheart copyright registration in the U.S. Copyright Office Public Records System. Cohen is most known for creating and portraying the fictional satirical characters Ali G and Borat Sagdiyev. Since October 2022, Baron Cohen has been rumoured to star in Ironheart, although Marvel has yet to formally confirm his participation in the Disney+ miniseries. Marvel appears to be utilising “Mystery Man” as a stand-in for the actor playing the evil Mephisto in Ironheart, with Baron Cohen likely portraying the comic book character. Ironheart was initially slated to make its Disney+ debut in the autumn of 2023, taking Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams/Ironheart’s place after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). Marvel Studios, however, took the series off of its schedule for planned releases in September 2023. Insiders reported that the series was postponed in order to coincide with the next film Armour Wars, which has not yet started production, despite the studio not providing an official explanation. The copyright application indicates that Ironheart will now likely be released in late 2025, but Marvel has not yet officially announced this release period.
Ironheart will apparently centre on the distinctions between technology and magic, with Riri Williams’ character Ironheart standing in for the former and Parker Robbins’ character The Hood (Anthony Ramos) for the latter. Plot specifics are still lacking. There have also been rumours that Mephisto, played by Sacha Baron Cohen, will be the one to give Parker Robbins his hood, which gives him access to magic and evil arts. Ironheart was done filming in November 2022, thus the cast and crew may have to wait about three years to see the finished product on Disney+. Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy, Lyric Ross as Natalie Washington, Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Anji White as Ronnie Williams, Manny Montana as Cousin John, and Shea Coulee as Slug are among the ensemble cast members of Ironheart in addition to Baron Cohen, Thorne, and Ramos. In addition, Jim Rash will return to the series in his role as the Dean of MIT from Captain America: Civil War. Unspecified parts have also been announced for Harper Anthony, Zoe Terakes, Regan Aliyah, Shakira Barrera, Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola, Sonia Denis, Paul Calderón, and Cree Summer.
