Some gamers are wondering if the recently found Spider-Man 2 bug, which transforms Spider-Man into a crime-fighting white cube, was deliberate or perhaps part of the game’s mythology. On X (previously Twitter), fans of Spider-Man 2 are going crazy after someone shared a video of the superhero without his costume and with a white cube that some have compared to sugar or tofu. The gameplay footage opens with Miles Morales leaping from a rooftop wearing his iconic black costume, but as Spidey swings across the city and bounds over building tops, it seems as though the viewpoint changes to first person. If it weren’t for the constant white cube that appears to represent the character placeholder on screen, this wouldn’t have been quite so strange.
Confessing that this was an accidental outcome of an unlocked flaw, the person who uploaded the video said, “I ran into this bug where almost all my suits turned invisible and made Spider-Man into a white cube HELPPPPP.” Spider-Man indeed appear to be removed from the game by the glitch, but it was also clear that the character’s in-game physics were preserved. With velocity and a sensation of weight, the white cube sprinted and landed on roofs and bounced with web swings as it made its way through the city’s structures. Several individuals unlocked the same issue during gaming by posting confirmations in the same manner. Bugs and glitches are common in Spider-Man games; in certain cases, they even cause the character to transform into odd things. “I clearly remember turning into an AC unit or a transformer or something,” a user said. “Just one of those little rooftop props for buildings,” Miles Morales said in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The same user even ventured to speculate that the white cube in Spider-Man 2 has important ramifications for the game’s mythology and isn’t a glitch. Screenshots of Peter Parker and Miles Morales with flying heads and disappearing bodies from faulty title displays were also shared by other users. With a resoundingly positive reception, Spider-Man 2 is generally seen as a good follow-up to 2020’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has a more expansive terrain, new character skills, and innovative features including updated spider-sense mechanisms that enhance the gameplay of the first game. By making Peter Parker a selectable character and putting Spider-Man up against Venom and Kraven the Hunter as arch-villains, the sequel also does a good job of satisfying fans.
