The Avengers risk losing their most formidable member once more

It’s possible that the Avengers may experience one of their worst moments—losing the Vision—again. The next Avengers, which are written by Jed MacKay, illustrated by C.F. Villa, and coloured by Federico Blee, feature a teaser that shows Earth’s Mightiest Heroes taking on an opponent they hardly comprehend in yet another earth-shattering battle. Fans see the tall beast that is probably responsible for most of this devastation among all the turmoil and slaughter, and they also see the Scarlet Witch holding the fallen form of the Vision again, though it is unclear how seriously damaged it is.

Over the decades that have passed since Roy Thomas and John Buscema first introduced the synthezoid hero in the pages of Avengers in 1968, the Vision has undergone several rebuilds after being damaged or disassembled. At the close of the Silver Age of comics, Ultron created the Vision, who was initially intended to kill Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. However, the Vision quickly gained a personality of his own and became a vital part of the team. Shortly after Scarlet Witch and the Vision departed the Avengers in the mid-1980s, the former was caught and destroyed in a famous event that was later adapted for Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany’s WandaVision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A little over twenty years later, in the pages of Avengers (written by Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch), the Vision met an even more tragic end when he was taken over by the then-dangerous mentally unstable Scarlet Witch. The now-famous “Avengers: Disassembled” plot began when the Vision, unable to control his own impulses, launched a shameless, surprise attack on his fellow Avengers before his physical form abruptly dissolved and disintegrated. The Vision most recently re-joined the Avengers at the request of Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, who took over as the group’s captain when Mephisto’s Multiversal War ended. Avengers was written by Jed MacKay, with Cory Petit of VC contributing writing, C.F. Villa for art, Federico Blee for colours, and Carlos Lao for design. Stuart Immonen created the main cover art, while Cory Smith, Rachelle Rosenberg, Emilio Laiso, Bryan Valenza, Leonel Castellani, and Marcos Martin contributed alternative covers. Marvel Comics will release Avengers on November 1.
