Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool & Wolverine, continues to promise more fascinating celebrity appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. However, Levy assures that the star power on show will not overshadow the brilliance of the tale his film conveys. In an interview, Levy discussed his approach to the celebrity cameos, which MCU fans have speculated about endlessly. While Levy is pleased about the surprises he has in store for moviegoers, he promises them that Deadpool and Wolverine’s game-changing story will be the main talking point. “I’ll say we didn’t start off with a wishlist,” Levy stated. “From the day we started devising this Deadpool & Wolverine story, we let the story dictate the characters, not the other way around.” Levy has done his utmost to keep the celebrity appearances under wraps, with the most talked-about being the prospective appearance of Grammy-winning singer Taylor Swift as the X-Men associate Dazzler. Aaron Stanford, who played Pyro in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, will make a surprise appearance, the director said. Fans caught a glimpse of Pyro in Deadpool and Wolverine’s Super Bowl promo, fueling debate over which X-Men characters may appear. Levy suggested that Stanford’s reappearance and other appearances will add to the tale rather than detract from it. “Aaron and his return as Pyro was an outgrowth of that, and that applies to pretty much all the characters you’ll see in the movie,” he explained.

Deadpool and Wolverine are slated to debut a slew of X-Men as the mutant squad progressively merges into the MCU ahead of a projected relaunch film. The Super Bowl teaser hinted at many X-Men features, including the possible future of one of the group’s antagonists, Cassandra Nova. Meanwhile, Halle Berry’s Storm is likely to feature in the newest Deadpool film, portraying the role for the first time since Days of Future Past (2014). Levy previously stated that he was “lucky” to acquire the celebrity appearances, and that they were easy to obtain. The cameos have only added to the suspense surrounding Deadpool & Wolverine, the only MCU picture released in 2024 and the most anticipated summer feature. The film’s recent teaser broke an MCU audience record, and Marvel hopes that the film will breathe fresh life into the MCU’s Phase Five following a rough 2023. Ryan Reynolds returns as the “Merc With a Mouth” with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, with Reynolds’ character being summoned from his quiet existence for a big mission that might significantly change the MCU’s course. Though it is the third Deadpool film, Deadpool & Wolverine is the first under the MCU umbrella, and Levy just explained why it is not a trilogy.
