The film Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be inspired by a classic Disney production. In a recent interview, Spider-Verse director Joaquim Dos Santos gave out a major spoiler regarding the plot of Miles Morales’ third film. Santos talked about how the upcoming film would be influenced by the 1961 live-action Disney comedy The Parent Trap. Across the Spider-Verse ended on a dramatic cliffhanger with Miles meeting his alternative self as the Prowler on Earth-42. “Basically, that ended up becoming the second half of the movie, which then ended up becoming mostly the third movie,” Dos Santos explained. The Parent Trap, starring Hayley Mills, is on a pair of twin daughters who were split up by their parents at birth and later brought back together as teens. The plan is then to trade places with their parents in order to bring them back together. Disney fans found the film to be successful, and as a result, two sequels and a 1998 remake starring Lindsay Lohan were produced. Dos Santos’ apparent allusion to the film suggests that, contrary to what happens in Beyond the Spider-Verse, the two Miles may eventually find themselves working together.

Chris Miller, the story’s producer, also noted that The Prince and the Pauper was a source of inspiration. “There were some emotional touchstones resonating early on,” Miller stated. “I believe that the early take was much more in the vein of Prince and the Pauper. The alternative Miles was the main focus. In essence, the majority of the initial concept was what is now the very, very end of the film. Beyond the sources of inspiration mentioned by Dos Santos and Miller, further information regarding Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is still shrouded in secrecy. The majority of the team has been either kept in the dark about what will happen in the upcoming episode or has been sworn to secrecy. However, according to Karan Soni, the star of Across the Spider-Verse, Shameik Moore, who plays Miles Morales, is the only member of the ensemble who he believes has all the answers.”I don’t know what lies ahead.Shameik is likely the only one who is aware of it since, from what I understand, his character arc was given to him before they started writing the next two, which is excellent because he has a lot of work to do in these films. He is really knowledgeable, but the rest of us are clueless,” Soni remarked.
