The end of Daredevil: Born Again maybe the most bizarre MCU team-up, but I’m eager to see it now.

The spectacular ending of Daredevil: Born Again hinted to one of the most bizarre collaborations in the MCU, and there is one obvious area where Marvel Studios might make this collaboration a reality. On April 15, Daredevil: Born Again season 1 came to a dramatic and unresolved finish with episode 9, “Straight to Hell,” in which Mayor Wilson Fisk implemented his revolutionary “Safer Streets” plan. Kingpin is now targeting all vigilantes in New York, including two who were originally spotted together in the Born Again conclusion. The first season of the revival series’ slow-burning, more grounded plot was expertly wrapped up in Daredevil: Born Again’s season 1 finale, which also set up an intriguing and gripping new plot for season 2 and beyond. Other MCU projects, like the impending Thunderbolts*, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and maybe even the Punisher’s planned Special Presentation, will probably be impacted by this new narrative as well. The reintroduction of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again was amazing, and his next spinoff may have just gotten a surprise inclusion.

In 2016’s Daredevil season 2 on Netflix, Jon Bernthal made his debut as Frank Castle, the Punisher, a mass murdering vigilante who is a part of the Defenders Saga, which was just proven to be canon to the MCU. This made it possible for Bernthal to return to his cherished and well-known character in Daredevil: Born Again, initially in “Sic Semper Systema,” episode 4, and then in the season finale. Frank Castle faced the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, a group of dishonest NYPD policemen who had appropriated his skull insignia, at the end of Daredevil: Born Again, but he did not come out of it unharmed. Frank Castle was sent to Wilson Fisk’s facility at the Red Hook free port after eliminating many members of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Despite being the only inmate genuinely shackled up, he managed to elude AVTF officer Anthony Petruccio and gain the tools to break out of custody. The Punisher’s Special Presentation, which is scheduled for publication in 2026, will undoubtedly carry on this plot, but if it takes up right after Daredevil: Born Again, Frank Castle may not be the only one working on this project.

Although Frank Castle was the most threatening inmate in Wilson Fisk’s prison in the last scene of Daredevil: Born Again and maybe the Kingpin’s most prized possession, he wasn’t the only vigilante seen in a cage. Kingpin’s prison housed a number of other people, most likely political competitors, outspoken opponents, and the like, but one of them was far more intriguing. The Swordsman, who turned into his own vigilante, was another prominent prisoner in Born Again’s conclusion, while Tony Dalton returned to his Hawkeye role as Jack Duquesne in Daredevil: Born Again. Frank Castle’s escape from jail was hinted to in the post-credits sequence in Daredevil: Born Again, and it would make logical that he would also liberate other captives. In the Punisher’s next Special Presentation, Marvel may be establishing a collaboration between the two characters. Although I don’t believe anyone had this collaboration on their bingo card, it may work out well for both characters and the MCU’s constantly changing street-level plot. However, Tony Dalton’s involvement in the Punisher spinoff has not yet been confirmed.

At the conclusion of season one of Daredevil: Born Again, Mayor Wilson Fisk proclaimed martial law in New York City and banned vigilantism throughout the city. Since New York is somewhat of a center for superhero activity, including grounded vigilantes like the Punisher and the Swordsman, this will have an influence on a significant number of the MCU’s heroes. In addition to being a fantastic chance to carry on the story of Born Again season 1 and go more into Kingpin’s new empire, bringing them together in the Punisher’s planned spinoff may also be advantageous for the characters. Netflix’s The Punisher series gave Frank Castle a lot of growth, but Jack Duquesne in the MCU merits far more attention. It would be fantastic to see the Swordsman make a comeback in other street-level ventures, and the Punisher’s Special Presentation would be a fantastic choice, considering there has been no indication that Hawkeye season 2 is currently in development. It is probable that Tony Dalton will make a comeback in season two of Daredevil: Born Again, possibly joining Jon Bernthal’s Punisher as a new crime-fighting MCU team.
