The Marvels cast has faith in Iman Vellani’s MCU knowledge

Brie Larson, who portrays Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film, revealed that the cast and crew trusted her co-star Iman Vellani, who plays Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, with complete knowledge of the series. Larson revealed this knowledge about Vellani in an interview, saying, “I’ve just learned to trust Iman because she has her timelines in order.” She’s the one who is always lecturing us. Without her, I’d have no idea how old Carol is. She is really good in maths.” Vellani demonstrated this ability when she corrected Larson and Monica Rambeau/Photon actress Teyonah Parris on when the three of them first met, claiming it was at a screening of Black Widow in 2021. “I just say things with enough conviction, and they believe me,” Vellani remarked.

Vellani’s passion of Marvel Comics has proven to be a valuable asset before, as Kamala Khan co-creator Sana Amanat told the tale of how it won Vellani the part of Kamala in the character’s Disney+ series in 2022. “She showed me every corner of her room [while she auditioned on Zoom], and it was covered with Avengers,” Amanat recounted. “Then she said, ‘Oh wait, I’m not done,’ opened up her closet, and there was even more Marvel everywhere.” In terms of her character’s participation in the picture, Vellani stated at the 2022 D23 Expo that Kamala has “certain expectations about what this teamwork should look like” based on comics and all the stories she hears about the Avengers. “So, it’s not quite what she had hoped for, so I think Kamala’s kind of the glue of the group and holds these guys together,” the actor continued.

Putting the accent on The Marvels, a 2022 description provided fans a taste of what Carol, Monica, and Kamala may expect when they hit the big screen later this year. While Carol has “reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence,” the Female Fury now bears “the burden of a destabilised universe” as a result of unexpected repercussions, according to the description. When Carol lands in “an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary,” her powers get entwined with Kamala and Monica’s. The three must then work together to “learn to work in concert to save the universe as ‘The Marvels.'”
