According to reports, the budget for Echo from Marvel Studios has been disclosed, and it easily smashes a significant milestone for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A production budget of $40 million is reportedly all that the MA-rated Marvel Spotlight series starring Alaqua Cox has. This is less than 20 percent of the budgets of some of the other recent MCU series, such as She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ($212 million) and Secret Invasion ($225 million). Based on what is currently known, Echo has broken the record for the least expensive live-action Marvel series onDisney+. A six-episode season of television was expected to cost at least $150 million when Marvel Studios initially revealed ambitions to make Disney+ programmes. It was estimated that each television episode would cost around $25 million. The Winter Soldier, Moon Knight, The Falcon, and Loki Season 2 were all said to have cost about $150 million, whereas Hawkeye and WandaVision were purportedly as expensive as The Hulk.
The $40 million budget for Echo is more in line with what Netflix’s Daredevil Season 1 cost, which was estimated to be between $42 and $56 million. It’s crucial to remember that Daredevil Season 1’s budget was allocated for a full 13 episodes, whereas Echo’s was only allocated for five. Marvel Studios has had great success with Echo; her show is said to have contributed to a rise in Disney+ viewing of Daredevil, Hawkeye, and The Punisher. Given Echo’s popularity and affordability, it’s hardly surprising that Marvel Studios plans to grow the MCU’s street-level franchise, starting with Daredevil: Born Again.
Marvel Studios is apparently not working on a second season of Echo at this moment, despite the show’s success. Cinematographer Kira Kelly for Echo recently said that she wasn’t sure whether a second season would be made, but it doesn’t mean Maya Lopez/Echo wouldn’t appear in subsequent Marvel movies. “I think the world—you know, whatever that Alaqua Cox can show us would be incredible. Whether she’s going to be in the upcoming season of Daredevil or any other show, or if she’s going to be in another one altogether. “Any excuse to see Alaqua perform again would be greatly appreciated,” she remarked. Following the events of the Disney+ series Hawkeye in 2021, Maya Lopez is the focus of the first episode under the Marvel Spotlight label, Echo. According to the description for the MCU series, “Maya Lopez is being pursued by Wilson Fisk’s organisation, leading her to return to her hometown in Oklahoma, where she must come to terms with her past, reconnect with her Native American roots, and embrace her family and community.”
