A major component of the first season of X-Men ’97 had a love triangle plotline that did not sit well with everyone. On the other hand, Lenore Zann genuinely cherished it. Speaking about the contentious love triangle, Zann discussed her role as Rogue in X-Men: The Animated Series and her return for X-Men ’97. Although the connection between Rogue and Magneto is based on the comic books, many people who haven’t read the books are unaware of this, and many fans felt that X-Men ’97 erred in bringing in the Magneto dynamic. According to sources, Lann shared her honest feelings about the tale and acknowledged that she loved seeing the startled reactions.
“To be honest, I thought it was great when I first read it. It’s hot out here! To mix with the sugar, this will be a tiny touch of spice. I can enjoy myself with this,” Zann said. However, a small part of me wondered, ‘Oh, I wonder how the fans are gonna react?’ They refer to themselves as Romy’s because there are so many fans of Rogue and Gambit, and I think, ‘They’re not going to be very thrilled about this. It will be interesting to observe their response. However, getting such types of things is usually beneficial for actors since it provides them with additional enjoyable material to work with.”
“I mean, to be honest, when I first read it, I was like, ‘Oh, good. This is spicy! This is gonna be a little bit of spice to throw in with that sugar. I can have fun with this.'”
In addition, Zann emphasized how much she desired to be in physical contact with someone else in order to provide some background for her admirers to consider. In any case, Zann found it fascinating to observe the rift the plot created among the fan base.
