Destin Daniel Cretton will not be directing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, as was previously rumoured amid rumours that the film had lost its writer. The next Avengers sequel is reportedly no longer under the direction of Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. There will be no “amicable exit,” since Cretton will be working with Marvel Studios on various big- and small-screen projects going forward. His newest project, which will be featured under the new Marvel Spotlight brand, is the Marvel series Wonder Man forDisney+. Filming on the co-created series by Cretton and showrunner Andrew Guest is scheduled to continue following Thanksgiving. Directing the first two episodes, Cretton is heavily involved in the process of production. The latest source also mentions that Cretton is currently engaged in active development on a follow-up to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The contracts Cretton signed in 2021 with Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective include these projects. At the time, it was said that Cretton will be directing and scripting Shang-Chi 2, but it hasn’t been made clear when the movie will start production. Star of Shang-Chi Simu Liu had stated back in July that the film wouldn’t come out until after Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which has subsequently been rescheduled until 2026. Given that Cretton is currently concentrating on Shang-Chi 2, with the Kang Dynasty in mind, it’s feasible that the movie may release sooner than anticipated.

Prior to being rescheduled for May 1, 2026, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was scheduled to debut in 2025. It is scheduled to be the first of two parts, with Avengers: Secret Wars to follow on May 7, 2027. These will be the last parts of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Writer Jeff Loveness of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was supposedly attached to write the script for The Kang Dynasty. However, it has been reported that he is no longer involved. This could mean that Marvel Studios will completely drop the Kang storyline, which could result in a new title and direction for The Kang Dynasty. The lead character of Cretton’s Wonder Man series, which was allegedly cancelled at one time, will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Ben Kingsley, who played Trevor Slattery in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is apparently set to star in it as well. Naturally, Simu Liu is also anticipated to reprise her title role in the Shang-Chi film. Beyond this, no more narrative information have been disclosed for Shang-Chi 2 or the Wonder Man series.
