The next Blade movie won’t be the high-end production that films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe usually are. According to reports. Given that Marvel films aren’t having the same commercial impact as they once did, significant financial cuts to the MCU’s film slate may be implemented. This reportedly has an impact on Blade, which is expected to proceed with a less than $100 million budget. The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 this year all have budgets of at least $200 million, in line with the standard for MCU-set movies. Blade would actually be the first MCU movie with a budget of less than $100 million since Iron Man (2008), which launched the cinematic universe, had a $186 million budget. With a combined budget of $130 million, Ant-Man and its first sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, are now the lowest-budget MCU movies yet released. According to rumours, the MCU-set series produced for Disney+ were not much less expensive. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, for example, had nine episodes with a budget of $25 million apiece.

Even though Blade will have a far lesser budget than other MCU movies, the project isn’t necessarily doomed. In comparison to other MCU movies, it may result in a more realistic production with a shorter running length, fewer fancy effects, and fewer cameos from superheroes. Michael Green, the renowned writer of Logan, joining the project may potentially be interpreted as positive, considering that the movie’s budget was also closer to $100 million. Since its announcement in 2019, this new version of Blade has been in development for a number of years, and it has faced significant challenges along the way. Prior to Green joining the film, it had gone through many writers and directors, and there were rumours that Mahershala Ali, the lead actor, was about to abandon it because of screenplay issues. Delays have also resulted from these internal issues, because Blade’s original release date was set for 2023. The original scheduled date of February 14, 2025 was moved back after many delays.
