Who is Iman Vellani?
Iman Vellani is a Canadian actor from Markham, Ontario, who landed the role of Kamala Khan through an open casting call while she was still a teenager. She is also, famously, one of the biggest Marvel comics nerds alive, the rare star who can out-trivia the fandom she plays to. She headlined Ms. Marvel on Disney Plus in 2022, then jumped to the big screen in The Marvels in 2023 alongside Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris.
How did Ms. Marvel quietly change the MCU?
The show finale dropped a bombshell that is still paying off. Kamala powers came with a twist in her genes, making her one of the first characters the MCU openly tagged with the mutant word. In the comics she is an Inhuman, so flipping her to a mutant on screen was Marvel planting a flag for the X-Men era.

Where is Iman Vellani Ms. Marvel headed next?
The Marvels already lit the fuse. Its stinger pulled Kamala toward a certain team of young heroes, and a Young Avengers or Champions style project has been rumoured for ages. Vellani herself keeps getting asked about it in interviews, usually with a grin and a non-answer. She has also voiced a version of Ms. Marvel in the animated Marvel Zombies, cheerfully describing her as the Frodo of that story.
