Marvel’s “What If…?” has concluded its run with its third season, marking what is billed as the show’s final chapter. This animated series, which delved into alternate realities within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), was a unique and experimental venture that allowed creators to explore beloved stories and characters in new and unexpected ways. The concept of “What If…?” always seemed like it could continue indefinitely, offering endless possibilities for storytelling. Fans have often speculated whether the show would truly end or if it would eventually return as the MCU expands and evolves.

In a recent interview with ComicBook, “What If…?” director Bryan Andrews shared his thoughts on the series’ conclusion. Andrews acknowledged that while the decision to end the show was made by higher-ups, there remains a significant potential for more stories in the future. He mentioned, “You could do these types of stories forever. You can just keep coming up with fun riffs.” Andrews believes that the audience has grown to appreciate the format and enjoys the idea of watching fun and interesting tales unfold. He also hinted that the timing of the show’s end might be related to other developments within the MCU, suggesting that this might be a strategic pause rather than a permanent end.

Andrews further elaborated on the potential for “What If…?” to continue beyond its third season. He emphasized that while there are no official plans at the moment, he feels that the show might just be on a temporary hiatus. He noted the growing relationship and side stories developed over the seasons, particularly those involving The Watcher. Andrews explained that while the overarching story involving The Watcher has reached a conclusion, this does not mean the entire premise of the show is over. This suggests that “What If…?” could return in the future with new adventures and alternate realities, keeping the spirit of the series alive for fans.
