The price of The Marvels has been made public, and it’s not as much as some comic book enthusiasts may have anticipated. Director of The Marvels Nia DaCosta recently discussed it in an interview. The forthcoming film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is said to have cost $130 million. As a result, The Marvels and 2015’s Ant-Man are tied for the cheapest MCU film. For contrast, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 all had budgets above $200 million, while Captain Marvel (2019) cost about $152-175 million. The Marvels, however, surpasses Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time ($100M) to become the highest-budgeted movie ever directed by a Black woman with a $130M budget. The long-awaited Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, follows up with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers (who made a brief appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The Marvels picks up after the events of WandaVision, Ms. Marvel, and Secret Invasion, respectively, and features Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. The three female superheroes in the forthcoming MCU film are brought together by Nick Fury when their talents become intertwined, causing them to switch places anytime they utilise their powers. The team also has to deal with Dar-Benn, a Kree supervillain wielding an Accusers’ hammer, played by Zawe Ashton.

The Marvels, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and Killers of the Flower Moon will be shown on IMAX screens nationally, according to IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond, who just announced that Dune: Part Two has been pushed back until 2024. “Now that it’s moved, we can play all three, and we have a great title next year in Dune,” added Gelfond in reference to Warner Bros. relocating Dune to March 2024. Marvel Studios apparently intended to introduce “a big Marvel hero from the comics,” who would have been portrayed by a well-known actor like Clive Owen or George Clooney. However, The Marvels will bring back fan favourites like Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo. This unknown figure would have been abruptly killed off at the end of the first act according to the original plot, which was ultimately abandoned before filming started. It is uncertain at this moment if The Marvels will include any significant appearances from heroes who have already achieved fame in the MCU.
