Spider-Man just swung straight past a James Cameron giant. The Spider-Man Brand New Day box office run has now rolled past Avatar: The Way of Water, which makes Tom Holland’s webslinger the third highest grossing movie in the history of cinema. Only two films are still ahead of him, and both of them are absolute legends.
The worldwide number now sits at roughly 2.33 billion dollars, and it is still climbing. For a solo superhero movie, with no Avengers lineup on the poster and no army of returning villains this time, that is a genuinely stunning result.
How big is the Spider-Man Brand New Day box office run now?
Here is the company Brand New Day is keeping. The only two films that have out grossed it are the original Avatar and Avengers Endgame, the two biggest earners the movie business has ever produced. Everything else, Titanic, The Force Awakens, Infinity War, the whole lot, is now in the rear view mirror.
| Rank | Film | Worldwide gross |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Avatar (2009) | ~2.92 billion |
| 2 | Avengers: Endgame | ~2.79 billion |
| 3 | Spider-Man: Brand New Day | ~2.33 billion |
| 4 | Avatar: The Way of Water | ~2.32 billion |
| 5 | Titanic | ~2.26 billion |
Just a few days ago we were writing about Brand New Day sinking Titanic for the number four spot. Now it has bagged number three too. At this point the Spider-Man Brand New Day box office story has basically become a weekly milestone machine.
Can Brand New Day catch Avengers Endgame?
This is where it gets spicy. Endgame sits at about 2.79 billion, so Spidey needs roughly another 460 million to steal second place. That is a big ask this deep into a run, and the daily numbers have naturally started to cool off.
But do not write it off just yet. The film has shown those freakish weekday holds, the kind Endgame itself was famous for, and there is still real overseas life in markets that adore Spider-Man. Second place is not a lock, but it is absolutely on the table. Catching the original Avatar at 2.92 billion, on the other hand, would take a small miracle.
What about that historic 1 billion dollar domestic record?
The other line to watch is at home. Brand New Day is sitting around 866 million dollars domestically, and no film in history has ever crossed 1 billion dollars in the United States alone. Not Endgame, not No Way Home, not even Avatar. If Spidey keeps these legs, he could be the very first.
That would be a record no amount of re-releases could ever chip away at, and it would hand Marvel and Sony the loudest possible bragging rights heading into a huge stretch for the studio.
What does this mean for the road to Doomsday?
Momentum matters. Marvel is marching toward Avengers Doomsday this December, and a Spider-Man movie sitting third on the all time chart is the best possible mood music. It quietly tells the world that the MCU can still print money at the very top level.
It also keeps Tom Holland’s Spidey right in the center of the conversation, which is exactly where you want your friendly neighborhood web head as the multiverse threat of Doctor Doom looms. What happens next
The next targets are clear. Keep an eye on that 1 billion domestic milestone, watch the shrinking gap to Endgame, and look out for the digital and home release date, which will eventually cap the theatrical run. Each of those is another headline waiting to happen.
So here is the big one for you: does Brand New Day have enough left in the tank to pass Endgame for number two, or is third place where this ridiculous run finally settles? Drop your call in the comments.
